It is abundantly clear that the RRS 1.0 folks don't have the same goals as many of the current users of RSS. So why they'd go and rewrite the format with those goals in mind is beyond me adn is yet another indication of the aforementioned elitism.

Like it or not, the format stands for RDF Site Summary. It is not elitism to update a spec so that it continues to live up to its name (at least, not in my mind). RSS 0.91 took a different approach (as advocated by Dave) but did not change the name. This was unfortunate, but it does not mean that we're becoming "elitists".
