Music is a linear medium

and probably ought to stay that way. Its time dependent. Tempo matters a lot and the idea is to take the listener on a path - not let the listener choose paths (which seems utterly bizarre in a musical context). The web in particular and hypertext in general, OTOH, are explicitly designed to leave the consumer in control and enable branching at whim. Besides, the web has no timing model and music requires very tight timing.

I don't think the web has anything to offer music from a creative perspective. (The internet may - remote jam sessions and such). I think as a distribution mechanism, sure. I think as a fancy global jukebox or radio station, OK. But this has nothing to do with the creation of music. Only the consumption.
