1) How impressed should we be that a 450 Mhz PII is able to do the same thing an old quadra running Quid Pro Quo and Frontier from the pre-commercial days? Does it bother anyone else at what this says about how slow the underlying technology really is? Samizdat allowed people to post stories and served up the entire site dynamically long ago, and it was about as inefficiently written as possible. Why does it take a 450 PII to do the same thing? Why the wide eyed gushing about power which is neither new nor usable to people who have more than small amounts of traffic?Where's the enthusiasm for apache and mod_perl, which heavily slammed web sites like slashdot show to be a far more scalable and powerful solution, with all free software, and a more widely used/extended scripting language, perl?
2) This test app does not work with certain browsers. In particular lynx. /discussionGroup/default is agressively cached by lynx and thus you are prompted to log in every time you try to read an article.
