Plain vanilla works best. Palm interfaces are best when they are minimalist. The Palm Pilot's minialist presentation of information, quickly and intuitively, is, what I think, makes the Pilot so appealing to its user base.

Give us a scripting page with, at most bullet points for stories. Actually, news.com's customized Pilot page does a good job at this approach.
