For my purposes, I can just do a CGI, but in James' scenario, if this network connectivity can happen without a user's knowledge (can it?), will they mind?

mmm... good question. My primary want for shockwave xml-rpc is to provide nice browser based editing for websites, for non-html coders. Now I'm interessted in getting my hands on Director 7 (maybe I'll go talk to purchasing again...). I wonder if there are restrictions...
