DG Image Problem (not found)

I'm changing the look of the DG pages for internal use. I have placed some gifs in #images of htmlInterfaces.root.discussionGroup.#images. As long as the page url is /htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/ all is fine. If I click on a date in the calendar and try to open url /htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/$1999/05/17 the images are not found.

I have looked in the log and found that:

url = /htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/

gives

pathargs = ""

referrer = http://192.168.88.74:81/htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/

url = /htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/images/Metris%20Black%20Discussion

whereas

url = /htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/$1999/05/17

gives

pathargs = 1999/05/images/Metris%20Black%20Discussion

referrer = http://192.168.88.74:81/htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/$1999/05/17

url = /htmlInterfaces/discussionGroup/

I'm not sure where the pathargs come from but the directory structure is definitely flipped.
