numbered objects

I have a string: "1.a.3.c.5.e"

I want this to become an valid table-address. table.SurePath() does not work, because its not an address. string.stringToAdress() does not work, because the address needs to be existing! Bummer!

How to get out of this? Do I have to loop through the items or is there a clever way I did oversee?
