I think I need to alter that Scripting News reference, and build a subtable of "links". Can I do this through Console.root? Where can I make

You don't need to do anything -- the file is generated automatically from the most recent news page. If your news page lives at

http://www.myserver.com/news/sampleNewsSite/

you should get an RSS representation of all the links contained in that page by requesting

http://www.myserver.com/news/sampleNewsSite/newsToRSS.xml
