Here's an idea (I know this means lots of work and that ideas are a dime a dozen, so rock-of-salt advised :):

Is this page dynamically generated? If it is, then it might be interesting to tie it in with the preferences recorded for whoever is requesting the page. If they're not a registered user then give them a default view. Otherwise, give them only the authors they care about, only the columns they want to see and only the messages they asked for. Do you want to see a week's worth of messages? No problemo. No calendar on the right? Sure. Only Dave's messages -- fine.

Etc etc.
