I found this article at the Washington Post today: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A44389-1999Nov24.htmlWith all of the commercial hype and bashing the internet receives, this is an example of how it can be used to marshall people together for the benefit of all. I thought this quote summed up in many ways why some of us write and communicate on a daily basis via the internet:
"They are doing what we're genetically programmed to do when when crisis comes into the family," said Dennis Klass, a professor at Webster University in St. Louis and one of several experts who embraced the Web idea. "They are gathering and marshaling psychic forces for the family. It's what communities and clans and villages have done from time immemorial."
Mike
