Looks like The Register is extra-friendly to deep linkers. This URL: http://www.theregister.co.uk/index.html contains the following advisory at the bottom of the article:' Webmasters, We recommend you use this URL for linking -- http://www.itnetwork.com/solution6043. It will save you time. '
In the XML future, I guess an agreed-on tag denoting "URI for permanent links" would be something we would hope to see develop.
