The recent discussion of zealous patent filings in the information technologies arena parallels recent trends in the health/biological sciences. In short, portions of the genetic code are being patented at a rapid rate by genomics companies, universities, etc., and there is growing concern that setting patentability standards too low will result in inhibited R&D, etc.
