Other other day, I got some e-mail from my sister, who's in the middle of a three-week hospital stay, recovering from some fairly major surgery. I'd asked her if I needed to send any CDs... she said no, the patient computer in her area has Napster!

Something about this struck me. I'm being attacked by the RIAA was a pretty sure sign to the Napster folks that they'd made it, but for the hosptial's IS dept. to allow it amazes me and is the best testament I've seen yet to its prevalence. To bring patients calming, familiar music is a very practical application of the technology, outside of the geek and college communities. Ah well, suppose I'm just easily surprised.
