Computing is getting to be a very big world. It is pretty hard to keep track of everything that is going on, much less to decide on what is "most interesting" at any given moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if the people at the conference just have their interests and their plates full.

I have seen bits of open source and .NET getting together elsewhere, as in the lightning oberon project.
