I thought DSL went pretty much as fast as you could afford to pay for. Is there a technical limitation that keeps you at 128K?

Dsl speed is inversly proportional to distance. So since Dave lives out of town, he's probably getting the 'long distance isdn speed dsl' that can be done at long distance over bad copper. It's the dsl of last resort for people more than a mile or two from a telephone central office.
