Thanks! Your mini-essay gave me enough impetus to start working on an outlineDocument reader-writer in earnest. Some ideas for fodder for outline documents:
1) circle of friends (and their friends, etc. etc.)
2) structure of a web page
3) structure of a web site
4) structure of an interdependant series of websites
5) structure of the flow of a site (the site architecture/taskflow)
6) the interdependant structure of a series of CSS styles in a site
7) driving directions (I know now to get to point B from A, and my friend knows how to get to point C from B, so link them up)
8) all the files I touched today on my HD
9) my mail filter rules
10) the structure of a javascript document
11) a site map
12) where all the images are on my HD - and their type
13) a newsgroup discussion
14) a dmoz directory
15) a recipe
16) an AI decision tree
17) the possible restaurants nearby that I would like, given my coords via a GPS system, and my taste in food.
18) a simplified mozilla application - to be used for auto-generation of an application from simple objects.
