To leverage off of the ideas presented in Ian Beatty's post (#589), if it is fair to typify the millenium from 0 A.D. to 1000 as a general decline of Western civilization (the Roman Empire to the Dark Ages) and the latest millenium as a general advancement (the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution and now the Information Age), the name Thomas Aquinas jumps out as someone who challenged a lot of the very fundamental assumptions of the times. Born in about 1225, there are a lot of famous and positive names, advancements, and events that have happened since his work, and not that many memorable ones from before.Just my suggestion.
Good topic choice, Dave. "Person of the Millenium" is a pretty big set of boots to fill.
