One of the features I like best about the new search engine is that each item from every back issue of Scripting News is a separate item.

So the Search Results page is like the home page itself, there are interesting connections to be made, you can watch people as they travel thru the industry.

Here are some examples:

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=mcnealy

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=canter

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=shotton

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=neuburg

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=polese

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=andreessen

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=zellers

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=rosenthol

http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=Holmes

Those are just some ideas. I've been playing with the search engine, it's been an educational process, the archives are now much more useful for me.

Also a note to people who maintain Frontier sites for other Frontier users. We want to expand the reach of our search engine. It has an XML-RPC interface. We'll be documenting it and providing sample scripts. It'll be a very new kind of search engine, instead of waiting for the engine to crawl you, you can plug it into your CMS and tell us when you have new stuff to index.

We think search engines are a basic part of a great web presence. We want a great web presence, so we're making the investment. All these tools will be available in Frontier 6, btw.

Dave
