I think discussion boards and search queries might also be designed with linking in mind.

I remember considering links to Builder.Com's Buzz discussion board (http://buzz.builder.com) and wondering if my login information would interfere with the complex (or ugly) URL.

Paul Anderson a producer at Builder.Com answered my question.
