Here's an interesting news article on the failure of self policing privacy issues on the web --

Many commercial web sites have been using the Truste seal of approval to assuage privacy concerns of their readers. This article suggests that Truste has been doing as good a job as can be expected, but is inherently inadequate for the role of policing privacy in the internet age.
