I was a Newton user from September '93 until March of '97, when I reverted back to a paper organizer. Back when I first got it, I loved my Newton. However in, retrospect, it seems overengineered yet underperforming.

I think a comparison between the Newton and the Pilot says volumes about what was wrong with Apple during the Scully/Spindler/Amelio era.
