For your application could you constuct a news page where multiple authors control distinct parts/channels of the page - think synchronous display of weblogs - multiple, single author weblogs/channels concurrently displayed on the same intranet news page page. Perhaps you could tweak the existing news site but suite would not nessarily involve any XML as these are internal sites where you can control/mandate the formatting whereas XML's value in my.userland.com is in allowing display of external channels which you do not overwise have any direct editorial control.
