So if cost is the most important issue, why have a STB at all?

And I don't agree. People want apps. Apps run on Windows. Therefore Intel, and therefore the biggest flavor of Windows the one that has the most software. It's easy to dumb-down software. It's expensive and time-consuming to create new software.

Further, who cares about software? It's all about websites. What's the point of STBs if it isn't to connect to the web?

I think the people who think this stuff thru are missing something totally obvious.
