Most of the reports I've read said that Quartz is 100% Apple-owned. (Note that Open Transport, which is licensed from Mentat, is also gone from MacOS X.) I think this is a wise idea, because Apple doesn't know what the future will bring. Maybe they'll want to Open Source their entire OS at some point. Or maybe they'll want to give it away for free. Outside licensed code can be a real problem there.

You guys are Jobs newbies. If you want to understand why they are moving to control every bit, just read Doc's explanation of Steve again. You don't get it. You're just meant to admire him. Don't bet on any other motive, it's not very likely.
