Another end of automated deep linking might be to look at iSyndicate and the deals they are signing with publishers to among other things handle their headlines to direct traffic to their sites.

MarketWatch.com sells headlines on iSyndicate
iSyndicate will distribute CBS MarketWatch.com headlines which will link back to stories on the financial news site. Bill Bishop, vice president of development at MarketWatch.com, says in the announcement that deals such as this are part of "Our aggressive push towards content distribution arrangements . . . making our news available to a wide online audience." FYI: There's a conference in two weeks in San Francisco that seems to address automated deep linking: Internet Content 99.
