Another idea -- limit postings to one per day per member.

That way people would think more before they post, and not feel the need to rebut every single point ad infinitum.

Or it would cause people to be more concise. You could edit the piece as many times as you like, make it as long as you like, but know that most people aren't going to make it past the first couple of paragraphs if you're not saying anything new or interesting..
