I figure that the web is roughly at the same point in its development as an application deployment platform as the Apple II.

If it's even that advanced :-)

I never actually had an Apple II, but from talking with one of my friends who was heavily engaged in Apple's early user interfaces, they seem to have had some pretty good software back then. And he says that his Apple II booted faster than his new G3 Mac...
