Ah, the irony...

Howard Singer: I'll grant that it has been bowdlerized into crap, (by the non-cognoscienti) but I thought you were a scholar of arcane expressions

Singular: cognoscente

Plural: cognoscenti

An Italian word, from Latin, from Greek, meaning one who knows.

Not being one to nitpick, I mention this only in the interests of precision. :o)
