You can have a personal toolbar in MSIE/Win, too. (I'm not sure about the Mac version, I use Netscape on Macs.)

If you edit your bookmarks ("Organize Favorites..."), edit the Links folder. Those appear as a personal toolbar in MSIE.

My toolbar gets me in one click to DocServer, Scripting News, the Frontier 5 site, the UserLand Search Engine, the Discussion Group, and so on.
