It would help if Microsoft documented the APIs. It would help even more if Steve Jobs said, in public, that this is an important step for the Mac, bringing it to parity with Windows.

In the developer world we call that "air cover". He puts his credibility behind it, helping users appreciate and ask for the feature from software developers.

It's not all about technology, as any OpenDoc™ developer could tell you.
