Larry,I have a few suggestions:
First, if you're Mac-based, let me suggest <http://el.www.media.mit.edu/groups/el/Projects/starlogo/>, <http://www.agentsheets.com>, or <http://www.stagecast.com>.
If you're Windows-based, let me suggest <http://el.www.media.mit.edu/groups/el/Projects/starlogo/>, <http://www.stagecast.com>, or VERY strongly, <http://www.toontalk.com/>.
I'm a rather large believer in the educational philosophies embodied in any and all of the above products. It also so happens that they're all a lot of fun.
You may also wish to consider <http://www.legomindstorms.com/> if your daughter is more the hands-on, likes-to-build-things type.
