No, they're not the same thing. Napster's success is largely because it's focused on music. Gnutella, Freenet and other file-sharing mechanisms (some born before Napster) are also-rans mostly because they didn't focus. They are inherently more complex because they are content-type-agnostic, subsequently they are also more difficult to use.
