With the caveat that I'm exremely likely to take Microsoft's side in an OS war, I think I'd crunch the numbers somewhat differently than Tim O'Reilly does. Perhaps noting the ~80/20 split in favor of relatively inexpensive, standard, x86-based hardware (estimated as NT + Netware + Linux + 1). Or the ~75/25 split in favor of commercial OSs ( free OSs consided to be Linux + 1 ).
