We're not in danger of losing out on trade unless you think we've got to "bribe" other countries for their business.

You put your finger on it. That explains why so many foreign govenments have retained the various white-shoe law firms near the seat of Empire. They are there to lobby for cumshaw or baksheesh, as the case may be.
