In MSIE5, "textarea" isn't what you should use if you want style. Place an "iframe" in your document, set designMode="On" and you have a text editor that will do style, drag-and-drop, images, URLs and support standard keyboard shortcuts.

Add some buttons for printing, spell checking, thesaurus etc. and you have a writing environment with most of the good stuff from Word, plus it is *inside* the web.

Demo at http://cajal.mbb.ki.se/staff/sten. It doesn't allow you to save anything to the server.

(of course you could use a hidden textarea for actually submitting the HTML to the server)
