He also mentions the case study of Solid...they were a good, cheap database, but chose to change their business model. Now if you have a neat little website with a copy of Solid, they aren't interested in you anymore. If you've been developing Solid-specific code and were just about to buy a full license, you've got a problem. For reasons like this, there is less risk in Open Source.I'm sure nobody has to worry about this with Dave, of course :-) Which brings up a point, that a good personal relationship with your customers can help make up for the risks of commercial software. Not many companies bother to develop that, though.
