BTW, at the W3C meeting yesterday, some people from big companies want to throw out SOAP and XML-RPC because they are HTTP-based, not SMTP-based. I think this is a nutty idea, HTTP is the cleanest most widely deployed communication protocol. It's very interesting that this question came up here today! (Synchronicity, it's in the air.)
