user.webserver discussion
Author: Dave Winer Posted: 12/16/1998; 6:20:47 AM Topic: user.webserver discussion Msg #: 1330 Prev/Next: 1329 / 1331
This morning my attention is turning to user.webserver, how the web server starts up, the role of guest databases, and issues of continuity.History
There's a lot of information on the site about user.webserver. It's a key place. It's also got some history in it. If you want to join me and participate in a discussion, please spend a bit of time reading:
http://search.userland.com/default?m=25&s=1&t=and&q=user.webserver
For people who are in the mainResponder loop, I'm going to integrate some of the capabilities of mainResponder.root with builtins.webserver. Some of the info in config.mainResponder.prefs and globals will move into user.webserver.
Motivation
For motivation, consider these questions. Do we want to be able to send an XML-RPC message to discuss.userland.com, even though it's a virtual domain on nirvana.userland.com?
Do we want membership and preferences to be available to any site running on the server, no matter what responder is used?
Do we want sophisticated logging and statistics for all sites, again, no matter what responder is used to field the request?
